Last Summer

It's been a few days since my last review, I know that's odd for me, but I've actually been working on my book. My characters had a story to tell, and I had some writing to do, but I'm back at the reviewing!

I was provided an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the author. It is set to release on July 09, 2019! So make sure you head over to Amazon and preorder!!

Last Summer is a story about journalist Ella Skye. She wakes up in the hospital after a car accident, and has lost bits and pieces of her memory, including the fact that she was pregnant when the accident happened, and she has lost her baby. She doesn't remember being pregnant at all. Her husband Damien seems a little closed off from her, so she takes to digging around herself to try and find answers. She is assigned an exclusive story with a celebrity adventurer, Nathan Donovan, and when she arrives it seems he knows her a lot better than she remembers knowing him.

The blurb for this story drew me in when I was searching for books to request on NetGalley. I love a good mystery book, especially one that has a little side of romance. From the first page I was pulled in and dying to figure out what happened, and how a person could only lose selective pieces of their memory.

I wasn't sure whether to like Ella or not. It was obvious she had been through a tragedy, but I wasn't entirely sure if she was a good person before the accident or not. She was hard to figure out, but I think that was important for the story, the author wanted you to go on that journey with Ella to see if you could piece together the things she was looking for also.

Right off the bat Damien rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed so closed off from her. I understand he was grieving a baby, but he didn't seem too torn up about the fact he almost lost his wife too. He found every reason he could to leave on business, and he avoided any conversation with her when she tried to find out what happened the day of the accident. It was like he was blaming her for her memory loss, so a part of me started to wonder if that was a sham also.

Nathan Donovan makes his appearance in the book and right away I liked him. He seemed friendly and it seemed like he loved Ella, he seemed so hurt that she didn't remember him or anything about him. I was just as desperate as Ella to find out what happened to them in those couple of weeks she had spent with him before she was pregnant, and also curious as to why that was a part of memory that was missing too. A lot of things weren't adding up, and I wanted answers!

This book does end on sort of a cliffhanger, but you do get all the answers you want about the questions the story brought up. It has the potential to branch out into another story though, so I'm curious if that is the authors intentions.

Overall I'm giving this story 4.5 STARS. I really enjoyed it. It had a good mystery, I thought I had everything figured out towards the end of the book, and then the last couple of chapters completely threw me for a loop! This was a good read. Just the right of mystery, a little bit of romance, and that OMG moment at the end that made you want more!
