Fighting for Rain
I didn't think this was a goodbye kiss, but maybe I was wrong. Because the last time Wes tried to tell me goodbye, it felt exactly like this.
The world was supposed to end on April 23, but Rainbow Williams's world ended days before that. The mass hysteria caused by the impending apocalypse claimed everything she'd ever loved. Her family. Her City. Her will to live. Until she met him. Wes Parker didn't have anything left for the apocalypse to take..he'd already lost it all by the time he was nine-years-old. His family. His home. His hope of ever being loved. Until he met her. Brought together by fate and bound by a love that would last lifetimes. Rain and Wes were prepared to die together on April 23. They were not prepared for what would happen on April 24.
I was given an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review. Fighting for Rain releases January 16th! It's book 2 in the Rain Trilogy!
Okay, so I've been dying for this book. Like, seriously dying. When I reviewed Praying for Rain it turned into some mushy love fest over BB Easton, because I'm such a fan girl, and this will be much more of the same. She is seriously the best. If you haven't read her first series of books 44 Chapters About 4 Men, and all the spin offs from that, then your seriously missing out. I randomly found BB's books, and I haven't looked back since. Not only is she an amazing writer, she's also an amazing human. She has the best reader group on Facebook, she's always interacting with her fan girls. And I just adore her. Okay, enough about that, your here for a review. :)
You have to read Praying for Rain first to understand what's going on in the book, and I reviewed that book here on the blog, so you should check that out also. Fighting for Rain picks up right where the first book left off, you know after that cliffhanger.
I already knew the book was going to have tension, because HELLO Rain's ex boyfriend is back in the picture. (That shouldn't be a spoiler, because you SHOULDN'T be reading this review if you haven't read book one. Okay people?)
I immediately didn't like Carter. I thought he was cocky, and so sure of himself and his relationship with Rain. But I was also angry at Wes, because instead of staying and showing Rain how he felt about her, he ran off. You kind of assume that's going to happen based off his track record in book one, but also, if your life me, you want to think he will be a BETTER PERSON. <--Sorry, I'm still irrationally angry at him for leaving her for the wolves in this book.
Rain is starting to have some growth in this book. She is still scared, and still having some post traumatic stress from all the events leading up to this, but really if she weren't then there might be something seriously wrong with her. I think her biggest problem is that she worries so much about making everyone happy, making sure everyone is taken care, making sure everyone is safe, that she sometimes forgets to make sure SHE is happy. She starts to figure it out though, and I saw some growth in her as the story progressed.
Because Wes's pain still feels better than mine.
I'm still mad at Wes. There isn't much else to say about that. He tried to redeem himself in the end, but ARE YOU KIDDING ME.
If you don't think a book like this is a book for you, your wrong. You need to read this series. BB has a way with words, she is describing this post apocalyptic world so beautifully that it feels like I'm right there with them. The sights, the sounds, smells everything it feels like your right there in the book. She really does such a fantastic job with that. Plus, even though this book ends on a HORRIBLE cliffhanger, book 3 is releasing on January 30th, so you really don't have that long to wait!
Because Wes wears his past like armor while I wear mine like chains.
Overall, I'm giving this one 5 STARS. Obviously, BB can do no wrong in my eyes, but on a serious note, this series is SO GOOD. It's a unique story, with unique characters, action, steamy scenes, and drama. It literally has everything you could ask for in a great book.
Plus, if you love to read about characters that make you want to choke them, this is definitely the book for you. *coughQcough* <--You'll understand when you read.
And seriously, I think BB was trying to kill us all with that ending. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.
Something clicks inside my heart. I feel it, like a fresh battery being snapped into place, and I realize that the aching, echoing hole in my chest- the one I've lived with my whole fucking life- wasn't there because I was empty. It was there so that Rain could reach in and fix me.
